Judith
Van Daalen
GIS & Mapping Officer

As GIS and Mapping Officer for Azerbaijan, Judith
is responsible for maintaining and managing the
SAC Geographic Information System and all contained
map datasets as well as the survey database. This
includes, mapping suspected landmine areas based
on survey interviews and producing statistical reports
and maps as requested, as well as training national
GIS staff on the use of the IMSMA and related GIS
applications. In addition, she coordinates with
local UN and Mine Action centers regarding data
sharing and with SAC HQ and GICHD regarding IMSMA.
Judith has four years experience working with
Geographic Information Systems in the Middle East,
Europe and Eurasia, including a year in Azerbaijan.
Prior to this she was a Project Associate at the
Instituto Manejo de Agua y Medio Ambiente in Cuzco,
Peru from 1995 through 1996, and in 1997 at the
International Center for Agricultural Research in
Dry Areas in Aleppo, Syria. Later in 1997 and into
1998, she was the Deputy Manager of the Café Loburg
in Wageningen. She began her career in GIS, in 1999,
as a Data Analyst for Geographic Data with ARC/INFO
and ArcView at Navigation Technology in the Netherlands.
From 1999 though 2001, Judith was a Consultant in
hydrology and GIS-related projects for the International
Development Department of Royal Haskoning (IWACO).
This brought her to Azerbaijan for a year in which
she worked on the “Baku Bay Oil Pollution Project.”
Between 2000 and 2001, Judith was in Uzbekistan
where she worked on institutional capacity building
at the Design Institute of Uzgi and on satellite
interpretation on water logging and salinity in
the South Karakalpakstan and Karshi regions.
Judith received a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in Natural
Resources Management from the University of Wageningen
in the Netherlands in 1997. She is a citizen of the Netherlands, speaks Dutch,
English, German and Spanish, and has a working-knowledge
of French and Russian.
