As the Field Coordinator for the Landmine Impact
Survey (LIS) in Angola, Chris is responsible for
the implementation and coordination of the survey
with the local implementing partners. She coordinates
and oversees all aspects of the survey being conducted
across all provinces covered by the SAC country
operational plan. She monitors the activities
of the implementing partners and guides and assists
them on operational matters when necessary. She
is also responsible for liaising with the provincial
authorities and the UN field representatives as
needed. She assists in the training of all project
personnel and ensures that standards are met and
that information provided by the survey teams
is accurate and correct.
Chris has worked with humanitarian relief and landmine education initiatives for the past 8 years in many different parts of the world. She has focused primarily on Mine Risk Education and Mine Awareness programs in countries such as Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Eritrea, and Namibia. She began working in Mine Action with the Mine Action Group (MAG) in Angola in 1996 developing community mine awareness programs and integrated mine action teams. She has also worked with Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), DanChurchAid (DCA), UNICEF, and the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF).
Education is a theme that has been ever-present in Chris’ career path. Before working in humanitarian relief she was heavily involved in teaching English as foreign language. She worked with English as a Foreign Language education in Egypt, Angola, Oman, and China with both the private and state sector.
Angola has always been a country of interest for Chris. She has returned many times working in both education and humanitarian landmine awareness issues.
Chris received her MA in Applied Linguistics for Teaching English as a Foreign Language in 1983 from the University of Lancaster in the United Kingdom.
Chris is a British citizen with a love of good food, political discussion, and never travels anywhere without a good supply of books.
